Publisher Description

Layer was developed by architects for the AECO industry and can be connected to a Revit model to bridge the gap between real-world building data and BIM.

App Features:
- Contextually organize detailed project information like materials, photos, surveys, measurements, notes, and tasks into a single library, streamlining workflow and reducing time-consuming redundancies and costly inaccuracies.

- Customize a wide range of data fields to capture every aspect of a building or project, which can then be instantly accessed both in the field and at the desk.

- Connect Layer to Revit to view, edit, and sync real-time data directly to a building model, giving the entire team - from architect to owner - instant access to absolutely everything.

Version History **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing notes and tasks in the element pane to not be visible.
- Fixed a bug causing the app to crash on iOS 27.
- Fixed a bug with file field value ordering and caption editing. 4.13.2 Sep 30 **Summary Documents Have a New Element Matrix Block**

The Element Matrix block groups elements across two axes and aggregates a value in each cell, with subtotals and grand totals. Pick a field for the rows, a field for the columns, and the aggregation to run in each cell — for example area by room type and level, or quantity by trade and floor.

**Formula Fields Can Be Aggregated in Summary Documents**

Formula fields can now be summed inside a summary document. SUM, MAX, and MIN also return correct results over lists of quantity-carrying numbers, which previously returned nothing.

**The Files Page Supports Multi-Select and Bulk Actions**

You can now select multiple files with shift-click, then delete or move them in a single action. Filtering and sorting on the files list have also been expanded.

**Photos Taken in Landscape Keep Their Orientation**

Photos captured with the phone held landscape now save in the orientation they were framed in. Files that were already uploaded in the wrong orientation can be rotated from the app.

**Template Pickers Can Be Searched**

The apply-template modal and the document view template picker now have search, instead of only listing Layer and Company templates by name.

**Phone Fields Accept International Numbers**

Phone fields now include a country selector and format numbers for the selected country.

**Company Roles Can Control Who Creates Projects and Templates**

Company admins can now manage what each company role is allowed to do, starting with creating projects and creating templates as two separate permissions. Every role has both by default, so nothing changes until an admin turns one off. Permission changes are recorded in the company activity log.

**More Company Data Is Available over the API and MCP**

Company owners, admins, and billing admins can now read users, roles, and usage data over the REST API and MCP. MCP also gained field group tools, so fields can be grouped and reordered outside the UI, and document view containers and URL blocks now render correctly when a view is authored over MCP.

**Comment Threads Are in Beta**

Comment threads let you start a conversation on an element, on a single field, or on a saved view, with rich text, @mentions, reactions, resolving, and subscriptions. Each project also gets an Inbox that collects the notifications and threads you're part of.

Comment threads are in beta and off by default. Contact us if you'd like to be a tester.

See https://layer.team/product-updates for more minor improvements and bug fixes. 4.13.0 Sep 28 **Organize Your Team with Company User Tags**

Company owners and admins can now tag members by trade, office, crew, role, or anything else that fits how your company works. Tags are managed in a new Manage Company → User Tags tab, grouped into categories you define, assigned from a user's detail page, shown as chips on user rows, and used to filter the company user list.

**Person Fields Can Offer the Right People Only**

A Person field can now be limited by user tag, so the picker offers a relevant subset of the project team instead of everyone. Restrict a field to specific tags or groups, or to people who share the viewer's own tags.

**Control What Public Form Fillers Can See**

Two new per-block settings in the form editor, "Let Users Filter" and "Let Users Show Extra Fields", control whether someone filling out a public form can filter the related element picker or add columns from the related category. Both stay on by default.

**Projects Reopen Where You Left Off**

Opening a project from the Project Browser now returns you to the category and view you last worked in.

**Bug Fixes**

- Fixed creating a template, creating a project from a template, and applying a template failing when the same static image was used in the document views of more than one category.
- Fixed a select field losing all of its options, and the matching value being removed from every element that had it selected, when the field was updated through the API, the MCP server, or a batch action without resending the option list.
- Fixed element notes printing in the wrong order in document view PDFs and spreadsheet reports. Exports now use the same newest first order the app shows.
- Fixed View Settings discarding changes to Table Columns and Gallery Card Fields, which could also overwrite the visible fields already saved on the view.

**Improvements**

- The Layer iOS app now requires iOS 15 or later. 4.12.0 Sep 3 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed models getting stuck on Translating or Applying instead of finishing and updating project. 4.11.6 Aug 19 **Improvements**

- Photos and files now finish uploading in the background, even if you've left the project you added them to.
- You'll now get a notification if your device is still holding files that haven't reached Layer yet.

**Bug Fixes**

- Fixed relationship fields created through the API not adding the matching field on the other category. 4.11.5 Aug 14 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing project team members dialogue and automation editor to not scroll.
- Fixed a bug causing spacing and alignment in reports to not function correctly.
- Fixed a bug causing page view blocks in document views to not function correctly.
**Improvements**

- Added the ability to generate Formula fields via the Layer API and MCP server. 4.11.4 Aug 11 **You Can Now See Notifications Inside the App**

Layer now has a built-in notification inbox. A new bell icon in the app header lets you see when actions complete, collaborators make updates, and other key events happen — without needing to check email. Notifications are organized around activity threads, making it easy to follow what's changed and where.

**Document Views Have More Formatting and Display Options**

Document views gained several quality-of-life improvements in this release. You can now set paragraph spacing in text blocks for better readability. Select fields can now display all available options inline in document view, and the Fields Table block makes it easier to click into particular fields within an element from a report.

**Company Management Has More Administrative Power**

Admins can now add a user to all projects in a single action directly from the company dashboard, making onboarding and team changes much faster. Company-level actions are also now tracked in the activity log, giving admins a clearer audit trail of changes made at the organization level.

**Formula Fields Are Easier to Use**

The formula editor has a refreshed interface — buttons and controls are always visible, duplicate node support is built in, and the overall appearance is more polished and consistent. These changes make building and editing formulas in the field editor more intuitive.

**Invitations Now Correctly Bind to the Invited Email**

Company invite links are now properly tied to the invited email address, preventing cases where a new account could be created under a different email than the one that received the invite.

**Bug Fixes**

- Fixed an issue where annotations on rotated pages in PDF reports were placed or rotated incorrectly.
- Fixed a crash in the mobile photo editor that could loop when editing high-resolution photos.
- Fixed thumbnail generation to correctly render circles, lines, arrows, and ink annotations (previously only squares, polygons, and stamps rendered) on edited images.
- Fixed corrupted category-view references caused by applying project templates.
- Fixed number field values being silently dropped when used in automations or bulk edit.
- Fixed the element API returning 500 errors when encountering dangling select options or quantity-less related fields.
- Fixed spreadsheet imports not matching multi-select fields with numeric values.
- Fixed document view report exports hanging or running out of memory during post-processing.
- Fixed PDFs with embedded annotations causing the drawing viewer to crash.
- Fixed project collaborator permission issues.
- Fixed orphaned photo files stuck in a permanent "pending upload" state.
- Fixed an isolated collection failure in file cleanup from blocking the rest of the cleanup run.
- Fixed report generation crashing on annotations with bad date values.

**Improvements**

- Improved overall app performance with targeted rendering and initialization optimizations.
- Added element search as a new REST API endpoint, enabling more flexible external integrations.
- Added PATCH and DELETE endpoints for projects, categories, and views via the REST API and MCP tools.
- Added a more reliable image processing pipeline for thumbnail generation, including parallelized processing.
- Improved photo and file upload status so you can tell the difference between a file still uploading from your device and one that has finished uploading and is only generating its preview — once a photo is uploaded, it's safe to leave the screen. Uploads that fail are now called out instead of showing an endless progress bar. 4.11.0 Aug 3 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing drawing view annotations to occasionally shift on creation and view load. 4.10.4 Jul 15 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed an issue causing the 360 degree panoramic photo viewer to not load. 4.10.3 Jul 9 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing drawing view annotations to occasionally shift on view load. 4.10.2 Jul 9 **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing certain operations to fail (template creation, report generation).
- Fixed a bug causing some annotations to render incorrectly when positioned on a PDF with a centered origin. 4.10.1 Jul 7 **Document Views Are More Powerful**

Document views now support block-level conditional formatting, making it easier to highlight important information directly in reports. Related elements are also easier to work with thanks to better navigation from document views and broader relationship support across document and form workflows.

**File Handling Is More Reliable**

This release includes major improvements to file generation and propagation, reducing cases where uploads or derived files fail to finish correctly or appear where expected. The result is a more dependable experience for file-heavy projects and report workflows.

**Company Management Has New User Pages**

Company admins can now open dedicated user pages in company management to see key user details, usage information, and project membership in one place. This makes it easier to understand who has access to what and manage teams at scale.

4.13.0 3d ago **Organize Your Team with Company User Tags**

Notifications are organized around activity threads, making it easy to follow what's changed and where.

**Document Views Have More Formatting and Display Options**

Document views gained several quality-of-life improvements in this release. You can now set paragraph spacing in text blocks for better readability. Select fields can now display all available options inline in document view, and the Fields Table block makes it easier to click into particular fields within an element from a report.

version 4.11.4

posted on 2026-08-12

Version History **Bug Fixes**

- Fixed a bug causing project team members dialogue and automation editor to not scroll.
- Fixed a bug causing spacing and alignment in reports to not function correctly.
- Fixed a bug causing page view blocks in document views to not function correctly.
**Improvements**

- Added the ability to generate Formula fields via the Layer API and MCP server. 4.11.4 1d ago **You Can Now See Notifications Inside the App**

### Table of Fields Block

A new block providing an easy way to layout element field data in a table has been added with full customization abilities.

### Field Block Styling

Element field value blocks in Document View can now have additional styling applied. Each block can have its own border, padding, margin, and background settings applied for additional customization capabilities. Fields can also have their title overridden to display a custom value instead of the field title in place of the label.

### Container Settings

Containers can now have margin and padding set independently for each side and include an “Add block” button to easily insert new blocks into containers. Field blocks now display their group (if applicable) from the block selector.

## Improved Filtering and Sorting

Table, Gallery, Document, and Form views can now all be viewed offline even when they have filters and sorts applied. Filtering and sorting can now be modified offline, including full text search. When online, all views now automatically update the elements included as element data changes, bringing elements that match filters and sorts into the view and removing those that do not in real time.

## API Key Improvements

API keys can now be generated with variable expiration dates, including keys that never expire. API keys can also be manually expired or removed and can now have a name set so they're easier to track.
